Lululemon
Artwork window display

This painting was displayed at Lululemon IFC. Series 1 of 4 The Blossom Girls. They represents four types of flowers: chrysanthemum, bauhinia, lotus and bamboo. Chrysanthemum in traditional Chinese culture represents intellectual accomplishments. Bauhinia is a symbol of harmony. Lotus embodies purity and bamboo brings luck and prosperity. The painting bridges between traditional and contemporary. It has a highly contemporary style however the materials used are distinctly traditional. Chinese ink and Japanese handmade origami paper are used for the painting. This combination also shows an experimentation on appropriating different Asian cultures and the acceptability of such appropriations.
